I show my son pictures of butterflies in books, words beginning with B, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. He names the colours as he learns them and we exclaim at their beauty on the pages.
Imagination or memory, I think of the orange monarchs and the vibrant blue butterflies I used to see fluttering around the citrus trees in the backyard. Now I don’t even see the unexciting little white ones I remember from my childhood garden. I hope the butterflies come back I’d like to show him real ones, not just in the pages of a book or maybe they are gone for good.
